History

Nypro has been at the forefront of plastics technology since its founding in 1955. In fact, it was the first plastics company specifically created to take advantage of a new technology - Nylon. When DuPont introduced Nylon to the marketplace, most plastics molders found it difficult to work with because it was a very technical product that needed highly engineered processing. Fred Kirk, the owner of Kirk Molding in Clinton, Massachusetts, teamed with Nick Stadtherr to create a new company, Nylon Products Inc., dedicated to molding the new Nylon materials. As Nypro became involved with hundreds of other plastics materials, the company name was condensed to Nypro Inc. in 1977. But the heritage remained. To people in the plastics industry, Nypro means innovation, engineering and technology.

Nypro's list of technological firsts is extensive. Nypro was:
- first to establish clean room molding
- first to fully automate all factories with robots and automation
- first to offer two-week mold builds
- first to build molds with a million-shot guarantee
- first to reduce global product launches from years to months

When Gordon Lankton became general manager and co-owner in 1962, he often worked on the factory floor with the 20 people on staff. He liked these people and thought they should share in the wealth of the firm. In 1998, he turned Nypro into one of the largest employee-owned companies. We also have an innovative quarterly profit sharing program, where all full-time employees are rewarded based on our quarterly results. So when we say we're people-driven, we are the proof.
