PEOPLE
FIRST
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded in 1992 as a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing awareness in high schools about science, technology and teamwork. Students from local high schools partner with a community business to build a robot, limited by budget and materials to assure an even competition among all. Robots must perform in a competitive environment, playing a new game each year. Since 1992, FIRST has grown internationally and the 2010 competition will include over 1,700 teams from around the world.
The Clinton High School/Nypro FIRST team ("Gael Force") has competed since the program's inception in 1992. A longstanding tradition in Clinton High School, the community and Nypro, the team attracts many students and volunteers. Annually, Gael Force typically attends two regional competitions and the championship competition in Atlanta, Georgia. The Gael Force team's enthusiasm and dedication have always served them well, and in the past eighteen years, these students have accumulated an impressive list of awards, several regional championships, one national championship, and a number of scholarships to major universities.
